PROJECT OVERVIEW: TheCompound.io and Whole Plant Expo
I recently had the pleasure of working as Creative Director for TheCompound.io and the experience was fantastic.
TheCompound.io is a software-as-service health and wellness cannabinoid campus that enables myriad services to help organizations fulfill business- and mission-critical functions, while serving the needs of patients and caregivers. The initial offering was on the information side and providing a space for webcast talks and data to be distributed. I was tasked to create marketing materials and social media items along with the environment itself. The range of social media platforms made things very interesting and had me producing print, static web images, and videos.
Once that was set and rolling, we moved on to our main event – The Whole Plant Expo. This was one of the largest undertaking I’ve taken all by far. Brand identity, social media presence for the event, print materials, website assets, and video assets.
Then there was the event itself. I had to create the event space in the virtual event platform with the overall look and feel and various event spaces including a custom Lobby area with a background created from around five or six image sources. We had seven conference tracks with more than 100 speakers planned and, seeing as I was the one that was going to produce all the videos, I needed to make sure I had a turn-key production setup for I could turn around six to twelve videos a week while continuing social media asset creation.
We also had multiple Digital Exhibit Halls that needed to be created. Each of the halls had five to ten booths within them. Luckily, I was able to share the lion’s share of the booth creation with someone else, but did create several custom booths for some of the companies involved in the event.
PROJECT OVERVIEW: Merck Millipore Virtual Event Graphics
The Merck Millipore Virtual Event was already underway when I was brought in to consult on the creative. The initial request was for me to come in and walk their in-house creative team through the process and be on call for any additional questions that may have come up.
The client was located in Paris and there were two other key players in the UK, so it made for a series of early morning calls, but things were moving along, so it was worthwhile. A few days after getting their creative team the assets they would need to take on the work requested, I got a call from the lead on the project. The Merck Millipore client wanted to have me do their creative instead of their team. This was largely due to the tight timeline – she figured that I could be a single point of contact and the whole of the process could move faster that way. I was a little concerned that I was being selected to complete the work of a team, but I knew I could make it work.
There was a lot of work to do in a very small amount of time. This combined with our new baby and an upcoming move made time management more important than ever.
I worked on the main registration page, the Main Hall, nine custom booths based on our platform designs and two additional locations for the environment. After a review, I had to create another five Millipore booths based on other designs I had come up with.
I also took on the task of creating some marketing images that were used to promote the event.
Lastly, I had to create a stage area for the Video Keynote Address and work on compositing two speakers into the scene. I worked with video teams in Paris and the New York to go over how I needed the hosts to be shot so that they would work for the composite. Then I had to do all the post work and compositing along with speaker support graphics and the final compression for upload into our webcasting space.
The project took about three weeks to complete.
One of my little hobby projects that I don’t really do much on anymore is my horror movie blog - THE HORROR SHOW, HORROR SHOW YouTube Channel, and my Facebook HORROR SHOW page. I was raised on horror and sci fi from an early age with my Mother showing me classics like EARTH VS THE FLYING SAUCERS and INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS on Saturday afternoons. That eventually grew into this hobby space where I reviewed horror films that people might not have seen.
From there I got into making videos for the blog using my editing skills and a green screen in a very small space. I got a small following, but didn’t have the drive to work on this over actual paying freelance projects. :::grin::: It was fun while it lasted, however.
